Collegium Musicum – This is music!
Once a year young musicians from all over Europe are invited to come to Schloss Weißenstein in order to practice together for four weeks and then present what they have worked out in concerts in the marble hall. In 1958 the Collegium Musicum was brought into being by Dr. Karl Graf von Schönborn and since this time it has been one of the most renowned summer academies of music. The foundation offers applicants between 18 and 28 years instrumental classes and board and lodging free of charge, which is supported by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (German Academic Exchange Service) and by the Bundesministerium für Angelegenheiten der Kultur und der Medien (Federal Ministry for Cultural and Media Concerns).
Today Paul Count von Schönborn and his wife continue this summer academy which has become the oldest of its kind in Europe.
”The love of the students and of all the involved persons, has turned the Collegium Musicum to what we celebrate today: an institution that connects nations whose common language is music.” (Jenö Nyári, Art Director in his greeting for the 50th anniversary)
