Buildings & park
The castle buildings took only seven years to complete but a further ten years to furnish and decorate. Lothar Franz Graf von Schönborn employed some of the best known and admired artists of his time for the interior. A particular highlight is the magnificent, unique staircase in the central block, which Lothar Franz designed personally. It is decorated with ornamental frescos by Johann Rudolph Byss and Giovanni Francesco Marchini.
Another highlight is the sumptuously decorated grotto hall, the thick walls of which support the marble hall above it. Very few halls of this quality remain today.

All rooms have been adorned with the ornaments and works of numerous artists. The mirrored cabinet designed by Ferdinand Plitzner is the oldest fully intact example of its kind in Germany. Many of the residential rooms have been preserved in their original state.
Schloss Weissenstein in Pommersfelden is surrounded by extensive grounds, which were converted from formal Baroque gardens to an English park landscape in the 19th century. These grounds are open to visitors for relaxation and viewing throughout the year.
